GAHCHO KUE BREAKS OWN ROUGH PRICE PER CARAT

Mountain Province Diamonds, which has a 49% stake at the Gahcho Kué mine in Canada, has announced that it achieved the “highest average price to date for diamonds” produced at the mine.

According to Mining Weekly, Mountain Province raked in $21.1 million at its June tender sale – realizing $95 per carat, compared with $72 per carat in the first three sales and $86 per carat at the fourth sale. Additionally, the June tender “drew more bids than any of the company’s sales so far”.

According to Mountain Province, the higher results can be attributed to “including some of the Fancy and special stones for which Mountain Province had successfully bid against mining partner and project operator De Beers”. The rest of these Fancy and special stones will be included in its July sale.
