Russian mining giant Alrosa has raked in $8.6 million from the sale of special size rough diamonds (weighing over 10.8 carats) in an international auction at the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) in Ramat Gan. Alrosa holds six auctions per year in Israel.

In a press release, Alrosa said that it sold 116 rough diamonds with a total weight of 1,800 carats. Participants in the auction came from Israel, Belgium, India, UAE, Russia, Hong Kong and the US.

Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of Alrosa, commented on the results: “The auction attracted clients from Israel, who traditionally specialize in large rough diamonds. Customers from other countries also participated. In total, there were 121 participants. The sales went well and met our expectations, we sold 75% of the offered volume”.
