Russian mining giant Alrosa has reported that it found two large rough diamonds in Yakutia earlier this month.
On July 18, Alrosa found a rough diamond weighing almost 110 carats at the Processing Plant No. 3 of Mirny Mining and Processing Division. On July 16, a 75-carat rough diamond was recovered at the Processing Plant No. 14 of Aikhal Mining and Processing Division. According to the company, “both rough diamonds are initially estimated as gem-quality. They are octahedron crystals with small inclusions, one of them with a straw-yellow tint”.
Alrosa added that the diamonds will be sent to Alrosa’s Diamond Sorting Center, “where they will be studied thoroughly and each of them will receive a special passport”. Additionally, “by Alrosa’s tradition”, both diamonds will be given names.
