DE BEERS DIAMOND PRODUCTION RISES SHARPLY IN Q2

Anglo American, owner of 85% of diamond miner De Beers, has reported that De Beers’ production of rough diamonds has risen by 36% year-on-year in the second quarter, totaling 8.7 million carats.

 

According to IDEX Online, De Beers produced 16.1 million carats in the first half of 2017, a 21% increase year-on-year.

 

Anglo American CEO Mark Cutifani said that De Beers’ output “had been boosted by a ramp-up of production at the Gahcho Kué mine in Canada in which it has a 51% stake, along with stable trading conditions”.

 

Last month, Anglo American has announced the value of rough diamond sales (Global Sightholder Sales and Auction Sales) for De Beers’ fifth sales cycle of 2017. According to the miner, the fifth cycled amounted to $530 million. De Beers’ fourth sales cycle of 2017 amounted to to $520 million.
