Lucapa Diamond Company has completed the review of the development plan, pit design and mine plan for its 70% owned Mothae kimberlite diamond project in Lesotho. The government of Lesotho owns the remaining 30%.
According to Rough & Polished, Lucapa will begin production in the H2 2018: “We now look forward to bringing Mothae into production early in the second half of 2018 to add a high value kimberlite production source to our exceptional Lulo alluvial production”, Lucapa managing director Stephen Wetherall said in a press release.
Last week, Lucapa reported revenues of $8.8 million from two sales of Lulo alluvial diamonds in Angola in the third quarter of the year. Lucapa said the stones were sold at an average price per carat of $1,676. Year to date, gross sales revenues total $24.3 million at an average price per carat of $1,640.
