The once popular and prestigious watch and jewelry show Baselworld will return in 2022, its managing director Michel Loris-Melkof has promised. According to IDEX Online, the show is scheduled for March 31 to April 4 in Basel and will have room for about 300 brands.
Following Switzerland’s national guidelines during Covid, Baselworld cancelled its 2020 show in January. According to the report, “its refund policy sparked an outcry from exhibitors, who found it to be less than generous considering the circumstances”.
In the meantime, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Chopard and Tudor said they would create their own show held in conjunction with Watches & Wonders Geneva. Then, the brands TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith also dropped from Baselworld.
In a press conference, Loris-Melikoff said MCH Group will cater to smaller watch, jewelry, and gemstone companies than in the past – companies from the “mid- to top section” of the industry, as well as “mass brands”.
