The Raj Pink – a 37.30 carats, Fancy Intense Pink diamond unearthed in 2015 and the largest diamond graded “fancy intense pink” – failed to sell last Wednesday (November 15) at Sotheby’s sale in Geneva, according to Mining Weekly.
The cushion-shaped stone is mounted on a ring and had a pre-sale estimate of $20 to $30 million. Bidding opened “at 9.9-million Swiss francs ($10.02-million) and climbed to 14 million Swiss francs before stalling”, according to the piece.
Several major other lots also failed to sell, among them a blue diamond ring by Moussaieff and a pair of yellow diamonds that formerly belonged to the German princely family of Von Donnersmarck. All in all, Sotheby’s sold 303 of the 349 lots.
