Lesotho Legend huge diamond

910-CARAT LESOTHO LEGEND SELLS FOR $40 MILLION

Gem Diamonds has announced that the Lesotho Legend – an exceptional quality 910 carat D colour Type IIa diamond recovered from Letšeng in January 2018 – was sold for $40 million on tender in Antwerp on March 12.

The Lesotho Legend is the fifth largest gem quality diamond ever recovered. Clifford Elphick, Gem Diamonds’ CEO, commented: “We are delighted with the outcome of the sale of this iconic diamond, which demonstrates the exceptional quality of The Lesotho Legend itself, as well as reaffirming the unique quality of the Letšeng diamond production”.

Earlier this month, Gem Diamonds announced the recovery of a 152 carat, top white colour Type IIa diamond from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho. According to the miner, this is the sixth diamond of over 100 carats recovered in 2018.
