FOLLOWING ACCIDENT, ALROSA FINDS MIR WORKERS OTHER JOBS

Following the flooding accident at the Mir mine on August 4, after which eight miners are still missing, Alrosa has began to move the workers of the mine to other jobs, Rough & Polished reports.

According to Alrosa’s press release, “the heads of the diamond miner’s divisions in team with production, personnel and social departments of the company will provide vacant jobs for the workers who are currently idle due to downtime”. Alexander Statsenko, Head of HR at Alrosa, commented that for the period of the mine’s downtime, its employees will receive salaries.

On August 15, it was reported that that rescue operations were halted in a flooded area at Mir mine, where four of the still eight missing miners are thought to be located. Earlier, Alrosa said that the horrific accident will not affect the diamond miner’s diamond production plans for the remainder of the year. Alrosa plans to produce 39 million carats of rough diamonds in 2017.
