Disgraced Diamantaire Mehul Choksi Faces New Fraud Charge

Fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, who is also Nirav Modi’s uncle, faces a new charge in India: According to IDEX Online, Choksi is accused, jointly with others, of defrauding the Industrial Finance Corporation of India Ltd (IFCI) between 2014 and 2018, of $3 million. 

 

Choksi currently resides on the Caribbean island of Dominica and is fighting the attempts to extradite him to India to stand trial. Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi already face charges of defrauding the Punjab National Bank of more than $1.8 billion Punjab National Bank.

 

According to the report, “Choksi is accused of the IFCI fraud in his role as director of the now-defunct Gitanjali Gems Ltd, which once had 4,000 retail outlets across India.”
