GEM DIAMONDS RECOVERS A MAMMOTH 357-CARAT STONE AT LETSENG

Gem Diamonds has announced the recovery of a 357-carat light brown high quality diamond from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho. This is the 13th diamond of over 100 carats to be recovered from Letšeng in 2018.

The last diamond over 100 carats to be unearthed in Letšeng was a 138 carat, top white colour Type IIa diamond, back in August. At the end of July, Gem Diamonds recovered a 100.5 carat, top white colour Type IIa diamond from Letšeng – the eleventh diamond of over 100 carats recovered in 2018.

In September, Gem Diamonds’ said that its revenue for the first half of the year totaled $167.7 million – up 81% year-on-year. The meteoric rise was attributed to the “recoveries of large, high quality diamonds at its Letšeng mine in Lesotho as well as the discovery and subsequent sale of the 910-carat Lesotho Legend for $40 million”.
