HONG KONG MARCH: SHOW ATTENDANCE BREAKS NEW RECORDS

Data released by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), which organized the twin jewelry shows – the 5th Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show (27 February-3 March) and the 35th Hong Kong International Jewellery Show (1-5 March) – shows that participation and attendance increased for both events.

The Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show, which had more than 4,550 exhibitors, drew 33,700 buyers. The 35th Hong Kong International Jewellery Show drew 53,000 visitors. In total, the twin shows attracted 87,000 buyers from 145 countries and regions, representing a 2% increase from last year.

Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, said in a press release: “[…] We are delighted that exhibitor attendance at both shows was the highest in years, and that attendance of both local and overseas buyers set new records”.

On-site surveys at the two shows, interviewing nearly 1,300 exhibitors and buyers, found that 62% expect overall sales this year to remain unchanged, and 33% expect sales to increase. As for gemstones settings, 61% favoured diamond – the highest among gemstones and more than the 41% recorded last year.
