The IDEX Polished Price Index, published by IDEX Online, hit its highest point in a decade in 2022, but also nose-dived to close the year down 7.5% overall (from 142.86 in January to 132.15 in December).
Last year, according to IDEX Online, was a year of highs and lows – the Index climbed and “surged as never before” as lockdowns and travel restrictions were eased, reaching a peak of 156.77in March. Then came the war in Ukraine, and a “40-year inflation high in the US,” and the Index crashed down.
However, according to the analysis, when zooming out (going back to 2004), despite the roller coaster year, the “big-picture trend remains upwards [and] the annual average of the Index in 2022 was higher than 2021.” Overall, the gains outweighed the losses.
