Lucapa Diamond Company, which operated the Lulo diamond project in Angola, has published its production performance for the quarter ended March 31, 2018.
During the quarter, Lucapa produced 4,507 carats – 10% more year-on-year. There was also a 53% year-on-year increase in the number of Special diamonds (weighing more than 10.8 carats) recovered to 58, including two +100 carat diamonds (116 carats and 103 carats). The most valuable premium-quality diamond recovered during the Quarter was an 85 carat Type IIa D-colour gem, while a 43 carat yellow diamond was the largest coloured gem-quality diamond recovered to date.
As for the miner’s financial performance during the quarter, Lucapa generated $10.8 million in gross sales revenues from two parcels of Lulo alluvial diamonds weighing 6,242. Price per carat achieved was $1,731. Lucapa ended the quarter with a cash balance of $13.1 million, and a diamond inventory of 3,047 carats.
