A 15.51-carat Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond fetched $1.14 million ($73,253 per carat) at the Phillips Hong Kong Jewels Auction recently, surpassing its low estimate of $950,000, IDEX Online reports.
The natural-color gem, VS2 clarity, no fluorescence, brilliant-cut stone is mounted in platinum and yellow gold, and flanked by two triangular-shaped diamonds totaling 1.25 carats (F-G color, VS clarity). A Van Cleef & Arpels turquoise and diamond necklace was the second-highest-grossing lot. It achieved $584,000, far exceeding its estimated value of $110,000 to $150,000.
In other auction news, Christie’s first Jewels Online auction of the year saw its top lot, a Kashmir Sapphire and Diamond Ring, exceeding expectations by nearly tripling its low estimate. The 8.19-carat sapphire, set in platinum with diamonds, sold for $856,800. Christie’s raked in a total of $13,521,438, with 131% sold by the low estimate, 100% by value, and 97% by lot.
