Mining giant Rio Tinto has appointed Angela Bigg as the new president and CEO of the Diavik Diamond Mine – the first ever female boss at the mine, IDEX Online report. Bigg will be in charge of 1,100 employees at the mine In 2020, the remote Canadian mine produced 6.2 million carats.
Bigg has worked in Rio Tinto since 2005. She joined Diavik in 2017 as VP Finance.
Rio Tinto Minerals chief executive Sinead Kaufman said: “Angela has a deep knowledge of our people and our operations, as well as established relationships with local communities. I’m delighted she will be Diavik’s first female president.”
